A Crypto Christmas Carol: The Ghost of Portfolios Past

December 25, 2025. Merry Christmas. Hope you got something nice in your stocking, because you sure as hell didn't get it from your crypto portfolio.

You know what's funny? Christmas is the one day where even the most hardcore degens actually log off. The charts look the same—dead flat, weirdly green because nobody's trading—but for once, we're not staring at them. We're eating dry turkey, pretending to care about Aunt Carol's new cat, and thinking about how much money we lost this year.

Let me tell you about the three ghosts visiting crypto tonight.

The Ghost of Crypto Past

Remember 2021? When your portfolio went up more while you slept than you made all year at your job? When you actually believed you were a genius? When "wen lambo" wasn't a joke—it was a genuine question with a timeline?

That ghost is haunting all of us today. He's pointing at your 2021 self, drunk on green candles, telling all your coworkers to buy Shiba Inu. He's showing you the exact moment you should have sold. He's reminding you that you once had life-changing money, and now you have... whatever this is.

The lesson: We were all idiots. But at least we were happy idiots.

The Ghost of Crypto Present

This ghost is less dramatic. He's just showing you what's actually happening right now:

  • Your uncle asking if Bitcoin is "still a thing"

  • Your cousin who "got out in 2022" making subtle I-told-you-so faces

  • You checking your phone under the table, not because the price moved, but because checking has become a nervous tic

  • The quiet realization that another year is ending, and you're still waiting

The markets are closed. The influencers are silent. The only thing moving is your regret.

The lesson: We're all just waiting for something that might never come back.

The Ghost of Crypto Future

This is the scariest ghost, because he doesn't show you anything. It's just darkness. Maybe your portfolio recovers. Maybe it goes to zero. Maybe crypto becomes what we hoped—or maybe it fades into obscurity, another dot-com bubble footnote.

The uncertainty is worse than any crash. At least when it's crashing, something's happening. This? This is purgatory.

The lesson: Nobody knows anything. We're all just pretending.

What Normal People Are Actually Asking (Dec 25 Edition)

While we're arguing about tokenomics on Crypto Twitter, normal people have simpler questions:

On Quora right now:
"My son bought Bitcoin years ago. How does he check if it's worth anything?"
"Is it too late to get into cryptocurrency?" (Asked every single day since 2013)
"I received $100 in Bitcoin as a gift. What do I do with it?"

The answers are surprisingly wholesome:
"Help him check. It might be life-changing money."
"Yes and no. Don't invest more than you can lose."
"Hold it and forget about it. Check back in 5 years."

There's something beautiful about the simplicity. They're not worried about RSI indicators or moving averages. They just want to know if they have money or not.

The Cold Hard Truth About Today

Fact 1: If you're checking crypto prices on Christmas, you have a problem. I have a problem. We all have a problem.

Fact 2: The best performing asset in your portfolio today is probably the gift card you got from your aunt.

Fact 3: Nobody on their deathbed says "I wish I'd spent more time watching charts." They say they wish they'd spent more time with family. Today's the day to actually do that.

Fact 4: The markets will be here tomorrow. Your family might not be.

A Christmas Miracle Proposal

I'm going to try something radical today. I'm going to:

  1. Not check any prices

  2. Not read any crypto news

  3. Not even think about my portfolio

  4. Just... be present

Crazy, I know. But maybe for one day, we can all just be normal people who don't know what a moving average is. People who think "HODL" is a typo. People who are happy with what they have, not constantly chasing what they don't.

Maybe that's the real wealth we've been missing.

Or maybe I'll relapse and check Binance before bed. Old habits die hard.

To anyone reading this today:
Whatever you're holding, wherever you're at, whatever your portfolio looks like—just be with people today. The charts aren't going anywhere. The people in your life might be.

Merry Christmas. See you in the trenches tomorrow.

P.S. If you actually made money this year, good for you. Now go enjoy it and stop rubbing it in.
